I'm learning to love myself again!

I'm learning to love myself again, and it's more than just the weight thing for me. If you were to ask me if I feel better about myself for my recent weight loss, the answer would of course, be yes. I know it's only eleven pounds so far, and I still have a huge amount to lose. But as I've started this journey, now only being on day eighteen, I've come to realize that I am really glad to be me. I've come to realize that I'm stronger than I thought. And every day that passes, in which I avoid the strongest of junk food temptations, it just solidifies to me, the fact that this time I am going to make it. I'm going to make it to my goal, and I'm going to live life to the fullest. Because I love myself, and I love my family.

Anyhow, here's the numbers for the last few days
Day 15: 1,174 calories, 11 glasses of water, workout
Day 16: 1,135 calories, 9 glasses of water
Day 17: 1,194 calories, 10 glasses of water, workout

Jodie, (AKA) Queen Livalot, so glad you've joined us!!

I was so happy to see Jodie, (Julie's mother-in-law) make her first post today! We're glad you're here Jodie, the more the merrier! Here's a thumbs up to you for joining us, as well as Weight Watchers.

It's Never Too Late

To loose weight or learn something new. On the loosing weight - well, maybe a pat of butter. Just started Weight Watchers on Tues and my body still isn't sure what to do with all that water. I applaud you all for your successes. Keep up the good work.

The other something new is this blogging stuff. Still not sure what I am doing. I know I downloaded a bunch of stuff to do photos and am wondering if the whole world now has access to my private life? Julie HELP!!!!!!

An epiphany!

Ok...So I am actually pretty excited about some information that just dawned on me yesterday as I was considering my weight loss journey. It is true that I have lost about 9 lbs. since rejumping my journey this January, but...If you look back at where this journey actually began after I had my 5th baby, well...I have much more to shout about! I weighed in at Weight Watchers 232 lbs. I lost 24 lbs. there in 7 months. Then I took a break, gained a few pounds back (about 10) and joined Curves in November of 2004...I managed to loose the 10 lbs. That way, but then we moved and I got off the program. I gained 7 lbs. since then and just started afresh with Prism. So...If you are still following me...I can really look back and celebrate a total of 26 lbs. lost! That's 104 sticks of butter, baby!

This photo was taken 9-11-03, that is me at 232 lbs.

So, is it weird to watch the Food channel while on a juice fast? Hee hee! Ok, things are still going well, although tonight was a bit harder, especially when my family had dinner. During the day I can go and distract myself while the kids eat, but at dinner it is a bit harder. Tomorrow is my last day on the fast and then Friday I will be gently reintroducing food. And by that I mean, eating light meals and going vegan for the next few days. I am planning on fruits for breakfast, soups for lunch and possibly some brown rice with steamed veggies for dinner. I will also continue juicing, but less than I am currently doing now. This has been a good experience so far and I am thinking I would not mind doing a cleansing fast like this on a quarterly basis. I think it is good for my system. Well, I will check back in tomorrow.
Good night.

Virtual Tail Kicking

With the virtual tail kicking I received (thanks) from my friends here, I have gotten back on track today. OK, it has only been for two meals, but isn't that where I start? One meal at a time. (sound like a 12-step program)

Last night while Honey and the twins were at Karate, Toddler and I went to the store and I bought the makings for my favorite low-points meal. I love Vietnamese/Thai style stir fry. I bought rice noodles, onions, scallops, mushrooms, cilantro, spring onions, cucumber, garlic, fresh ginger and last night and today at lunch I have had a BIG bowl of yummy veggies, with a little protein and starch. It comes to 7.5 points and boy is it filling. I used 4 points for breakfast so I am on the right track for today. I am also writing it all down which is how it works best for me.

Now comes the hard part, afternoon and evening. ONE MEAL AT A TIME. I am going to have a snack and try to eat a little before we go to church so I am not starving when we get home and eat the first thing that looks good or fast food as we are prone to do on church nights.

Wish me luck and a prayer...here we go....the journey has begun!!!!!!!!!

Well, truth be told, it how God sees us !(that's most important) And we need to keep in mind when Satan comes to tear us down, remind us of how we have failed, or even how awful we look..., that God does not see us that way!! So when you hear that little voice telling you that you are less than perfect......don't accept it! That is not what God thinks of you !! The Bible tells us to think on what is good, what is lovely. Keeping ourselves positive and keeping our eyes on the goal ! This is a huge struggle for me.....so I have decided to claim heath and a renewed mind as I pray every morning and I am praying the same for all of you !! Keep it up girls !!

Isn't this the truth?!

been awhile

Hey ladies,
my computer hasn't been letting me log on to the site, but i've been totally enjoying the progress y'all have been sharing, so great! I have been doing good with my portion sizes and the amount of food I choose to eat during the day. I need to work more on sticking to the actual program I'm on which is basically very limited carbs. One step at a time I guess. I'm really trying to get to the issues of why I eat when I do and curb the cravings and treat myself with other nice things. Last night I was really craving icecream but I took a hot bath instead, which was good. I felt like I had a huge victory. I had light popcorn and an apple for my evening snack and was proud of myself for not running across the street to the store which I've been known to do when I have cravings. So, that is where I'm at. I'm not nearly as strong as some of you in sticking to the strictness, but I'm so proud of each of you for what you have accomplished so far.

I sniffed the peanut butter

Posted by Picasa
Yup, you got it, I took a long whiff of the peanut butter. My kids wanted a spoonful of peanut butter, we needed to open a new jar, of course when you do, it smells the best, so I sniffed it. Not just a weenie sniff either....a serious one that just about had calories in it. I am working on this fasting, it is really going pretty good. You drink a LOT of juice while doing this. I have washed my juicer 6 times today already. Tonight will be my hardest hurdle, but I am determined to make it. I really feel like this could be a time of reprogramming, shrinking my stomach and clearing out my system so my cravings might subside a bit. It was funny, a few times today I caught myself wanting to just grab something to eat without really thinking about it, very strange. I wonder how often I have been doing that one lately, no wonder my jeans are all getting tight! Well, I will report in tomorrow, let you all know how it went. I am feeling tired early today, so I am going to and relax a bit. Oh, I did get in my workout, kept it light with a walk around the neighborhood in the beautiful sunshine. Keep up the good work ladies, I am rooting for all of you! (Oh by the way, don't you love the name of that peanut butter in the picture? "Heavenly Spread peanut butter" couldn't have been better!)

For a few laughs...

I promise not to make this a blog where I am always posting photos of my kids. I just thought this was too funny not to share with the other women that aren't familiar with my other blog. Hey, laughing burns calories, doesn't it? This picture is of my youngest son, taken by my eldest son...

Weigh in!

I weighed in at the Y yesterday! I am down a full 9 lbs, now! Yippee! That's a lot of butter, baby! Oh, yah. Feeling good about myself!

Monday: 1213 Calories, 10 glasses of water, excersized!

Something we can all relate to at times...

Alrighty then. I am back again...sorry it has been a while. I too am hitting a spiritual wall here..having a hard time keeping up the diet. I also believe that our eating habits should be with the mindset of caring for this temple that our Lord has given us and that His Spirit inhabits. This being said, I am making a drastic change for the next few days to see if it will give me the kick in the pants I am currently needing. I am going to go on a juice fast for the next three days and work on detoxifying my body. Today I ate light to begin with, lots of fruit and veggies, salmon and brown rice for dinner and tomorrow I will be only drinking juices that I am juicing with my juicer. (hee hee that was funny) I bought a couple of books on juicing while detoxing and so I am following the plan outlined in there. I have been drinking detox tea for about 5 days now and have noticed some small changes. I will also be drinking tea during the detox. After that I will break the fast on Friday with a light meal like I started with and then I will, HOPEFULLY, continue to make great food choices from then on out. I have several good reasons to work hard here, well, actually I have bunches, but some immediate ones are: I have to go in to the doc and have a blood draw, I am borderline to being diabetic and if I don't get this weight off, I could end up being diagnosed with it, which of course I don't want. And I also have to go in for a mammogram, my dr. found a cyst and wants to make sure there is nothing else in there so I have that scheduled for the 7th of Feb. I am hoping that this detox might clear up the cyst and that all will be well. But it has made me a little stressed as well as some other fun family stuff, and like many of you, when stressed I turn to food. BUT, I am working on getting a new attitude and I am really hoping I will start feeling so good after this detox program that things will brighten up for me. Oh yeah, I also ordered the new Winsor Pilates workout with the ring. I really enjoy her workout videos and do notice a huge difference when using them regularly. I'll let give you all a review when I try them out. Thanks for sharing all your stories, it really helps to not feel so alone at not meeting your goals and it also feels very encouraging to hear people making it and having all those wonderful feelings of success!
I will post soon.
Tina

This is for you, Kristina, Pretzel Denied!

Confessions for my friends

Thank you Julie for checking in on me. Things in the minivan have been yucky. We have had everyone with the croup and just as Toddler was getting over it he came down with Rotavirus. I don't do well with stress. Today I stepped on the scale and OH MY, I think it is broken. How can I have gained back my progress? This is the pits. I just don't do well with stress. (did I already say that?) It seems that when the kids are sick they just get more demanding.

Enough of the excuses. What this is is a spiritual issue. When I am stressed I turn to food instead of turning to the true source of my strength. Today, we ate ham and mac and cheese. It is what they wanted and since I didn't feel like making two lunches, I just ate it too. The difference today is that I ate ONE serving. The food we eat is not bad, I just eat too much of it.

Now I am off to fill my mug with cold water and get to drinking. Maybe in a few days, the bambinos will all be well and we can get back to normal and get the rest of the Christmas decorations put up. (but that is another story)

Body Makeover Link

Kristina took this test and it tells what body type you are and what kind of eating you should be doing. I am going to take it, too. Information is power, freedom, and leads to wise choices.

Kimiko, are you still sick? Do you need us to nurse you back to health?

We just miss seeing you post. I hope you are well. We love you sister.

Today was the day, and today I am celebrating!

I went into Curves this morning and did the deed. And low and behold, I have lost eleven pounds!!! I was SOOO happy to see that number! When I weighed myself two weeks ago, I was overwhelmed, with it being my heaviest weight ever. But, I have stayed the course, and I have proven to myself that I can do it! It's just going to take time, and lots of hard work. I also had her take my measurements, because I know that the pounds will most likely be slowing down as I build more muscle. So I wanted to be able to look at the inches as well. When I had initially started Curves, fifteen months ago, I was 249.2 pounds, just 5.6 pounds lighter than my heaviest weight two weeks ago. BUT, I have lost a total of 20.5 inches around my body since my very first workout fifteen months ago. And you know, as long as I can keep going down in my clothes sizes, I am one happy lady! I wore a new pair of pants for the first time yesterday. My little sister had given them to me last August, but I wasn't able to wear them comfortably. But I wore them all day yesterday, and I felt so good in them! Another cool thing that I did yesterday was stay away from the junk food at our neighbors house. We went over there with a few others to watch the Seahawks game. And let me tell you, I wanted those over sized salty pretzel sticks SO BAD!!! I just kept eye balling them, as I drank more and more water. Well, when it was all said and done, I did not sucumb to the pretzel sticks, but I did drink a whopping 14 glasses of water to help me abstain. (14 for the day, not just during the game, for those of you who think maybe I'm a bit crazy).
Anyhow, it's Monday, I've worked out, and I'm feeling good. Here's my stats for the last few days:
Day 12: 1,275 calories, 10 glasses of water, workout

Day 13: 1,265 calories, 10 glasses of water

Day 14: 1,255 calories, 14 glasses of water

Today so far, just a cup of cheerios, and a cup of coffee. Yeah for me!

It is late and I am headed off to bed. Someone who loves me is waiting for me upstairs, if you catch my drift! Anyways, blush, blush....Here are my totals for the past few days.

Friday: 1307 Calories, 9 glasses of water.

Love you all. Post, post, post! Kristina, are you weighing in tomorrow?

Butter

I have added a feature at the sidebar, if you haven't noticed. I will keep track of butter loss (each 1/4 lb.) It is rather encouraging to see it this way! You can either go into the template part of the blog and add your own number (see my line for an example), or just tell me your pounds lost and I will kindly do it for you, if you are uncomfortable about messing with the template.

Or maybe this look could work... minus the head band, of course.

I want to FEEL like Wonder Woman. Super strong, and super confident!

No, I don't think they would like that look, maybe this one would work better for them!

Even I couldn't keep my eyes off her in this dress. I want to feel that beautiful, if not look it.

So, if our husbands look like THAT, do WE have to look like this?!

I just couldn't resist Jules. I mean, I'm all for definition, but do ya think this gal has taken it just a tad too far? I think that she may even intimidate Arnold!

Maybe our husbands should start working out!

Ready to start a new day!

Hello, girls! I am ready to start a new day! I had kind of a quirky one yesterday...I ate a great breakfast, then went to the mall with the whole family, we had a great time and got a lot of little tasks done. But we didn't sit down to eat until about 2:15 and we were all grumpy and starved. I ordered very good food at PF Changs(chicken with broccoli, lettuce cups), even had brown rice. The problem was, I ate more than I would have at home. One because I was starved, and two, because it was so delicious, sitting in front of me in very large portions, and I was surrounded by six other people who were scarfing down food like it was their very first and very last meal ever! As a consequence, I was uncomfortably full and I only allowed myself a tiny dinner at 7 PM that night. It felt weird to be so out of order. I didn't like it. So, I am ready for a new day! I woke up this morning and said to Blake, "I have 1200 calories deposited into my account."

Multi-tasking

Well, here I am on day twelve. I'm doing well, but there were a couple of days that were rather tough for me this week, being on my cycle and all. But, I have stuck to the plan. I've worked out three times this week, and plan to go tonight if Willem gets home in time. It's cool to already see my clothes fitting me better. I was in a slump where I just kept wearing the same couple of outfits over and over... the one's that I felt less fat in. Now I'm actually wearing some of my other things again, and it feels wonderful.
Anyhow, here's a re-cap from the last few days:
Day 9: 1,184 calories, 10 glasses of water
Day 10: 1,180 calories, 10 glasses of water, workout
Day 11: 1,085 calories, 10 glasses of water, workout

Hope you are all having a good week!

Do you ever feel this way????

On my way to my meeting!

Ok, I just got home from the Y and I am off to my third Prism meeting! I stepped on the scale yesterday and I saw some encouraging numbers! It is just a matter of time, physics and chemistry. But when I saw the new number that defines my body...I thought to myself, "This number means FAITHFULNESS." I have been faithful. I will continue to be faithful, and the numbers will say that. This is what faithfulness can bring. I have a post on my other blog about inspiration. In it, I talk about "The Mirror". The part of our lives that forces us to be honest with ourselves. I am a truthful person to everyone around me, accept myself. This new diet is causing me to be true to myself. Love it! Just love it!

Here are my numbers for the last few days:

Tuesday: 1212 calories, 8 glasses of water

Wednesday: 1319 calories, 10 glasses of water, worked out. Weighed 207.8 (last weigh in on 1-9 was 210.4).

Thursday: Worked out again(4 times this week!), don't have a calorie count yet.

Kind of funny...

Everything else is coming into order...

I know you guys are probably laughing at me. But let me tell you, since I've started taking care of myself again with proper nutrition and excercise, more than just my body is getting into order.
I'm finding that things that I've been putting off, or that have been bothering me, I am dealing with now. For instance; there are a couple of corners in my home that have been accumulating crud, and I've not wanted to deal with it. But this week I have. I've been to the dentist, (which I've needed to do for a VERY long time). I've made phone calls that should have been made a while ago. I've cleaned my filthy downstairs bathroom. I've determined that if something is bothering me, I'm just going to deal with it. I 'm tired of procrastination. But it's so easy to do, isn't it? That's why many of us have struggled with our weight. We've put off doing what we know to be right, knowing it was going to be tough. But ladies, aren't you already feeling so much better about yourselves? Don't you find that already your confidence is being built? Mine certainly is, and I'm only on day ten. If I can feel this good about myself now, how will it be this summer?! I can't wait.
I hope you all are having a good week so far. I made it to Curves for the second time this week, and I'm feeling good! Just keep on pushing forward ladies. I know some days are better than others.

A small victory

My son had a wrestling tournament on Sunday and I was proud of myself that I stuck to my eating plan. You see, EVERYONE packs in a lot of junk food to snack on while at the tournaments, as they last for many hours. And that used to be one of the days that I could pig out on junk food, and no one would really notice... it was kind of like a camouflage for me. If you get my meaning. Anyhow, I took the time to cut up and measure all of my fruits, veggies, and other healthy snacks to bring along. I put them in sandwhich bags, and wrote down the calorie content for each. And I stuck to it. It wasn't even hard! I couldn't believe it. I used to look for excuses to be able to eat junk, acceptably. Let me tell you, I am motivated for the new me baby!
Here's my stats for the last couple of days:

Day 7: 1,148 calories, 10 glasses of water

Day 8: 1,325 calories, 9 glasses of water, workout

Detox.....flush it all away!!

I am going to detox tomorrow..so I thought I might share with you a little about it. There are many ways to "detox" 1. Water only- fasting..drinking nothing but water(and vitamins)
2. Juices & water - you get the point. Some people do it for a day..some for a week (ouch!)
Here's what I do and it works well for me!
I fast all processed foods...so I basically eat fruits and vegi's (raw) in little meals all day...DRINK tons of water, throw in some juice(cranberry) , maybe some green tea (honey if you need sweetener) Fruit smoothies-YUMM!! (Emerald City smoothie on Bothell-Everett hwy is GREAT!!)Take an extra vitamin C & E both are helpful at detoxing. I usually do it for a day...but when I can I do it for a few days (3 max) When it has been a long time since I have done one...I start out by dextoxing in steps...I will do one day one week..the next week I will do two days and keep stepping up...3 days is the highest I have done..but I know some people have done it for 30 days. It is incredible how much better you feel and you will drop ALOT of water weight, as well as lose the sweet tooth. It cleans out alot of the toxins that build up in your system, things that are making you tired, or causing allergies and headaches!!

The hardest part is cooking for my family, I try to make meals ahead..so I just have to throw them in the oven ...and I load up on vegi's before I even go in the kitchen to cook..that way I am not so tempted!!

I do have to add that the longer you do it the more effect it will have...also some of the effects during the detox are not great. You may get increased pimples as the toxin work their way out.. you may get constipated or diarrhea........you may not feel good for the first day but I encourage you to try it!!

Today is put to bed, so why am I still up?

Hey crew! Good to hear from several of you today! I love the activity this blog is getting. It means that we all have a heart beat and we are finally loving ourselves as much as we have loved those around us!

Here are my stats for the last two days:

Sunday: 1186 calories, no work out officially, but I slaved away all day at home rearranging and cleaning...So I think that counts for something!

Monday: 1053, worked out at the Y, 30 minutes on the bike, weights on three different machines. Forgot the vitamin(oops), but it's too late to take one now.

Okay... another confession

I made a discovery today that rather shocked me. I went to take a vitamin, (because whenever I see Julie posting, I take note that she has taken her vitamins), and it again motivated me to make a right choice. Well, low and behold, I discovered that my vitamins expired exactly ONE YEAR AGO!!!! Yikes, has it been that long since I've taken a vitamin? No! It can't be, can it? Well, that'll be the first thing I pick up the next time that I go to the store. Thanks again Jules for making me think about what I'm doing with my health. And thanks to all of you other gals that have been posting, it really makes it feel like we're all in this together.

New Stuff

I posted some new links to help us out. I will add more when I find them. I have made you all "administrators", which means you can add stuff to the sidebar and invite any friends you want to join us, too. We are all in this together. Please don't feel like you need my permission to invite someone. I am so proud of everyone! Jules

It feels so good....

Oh yeah, I mean not eating before bed, duh! I am actually enjoying this feeling of not eating before bed! Who knew?! So, I have been doing pretty good. Currently I am not following any particular plan, I am just doing what I have long known to be right. Today looked like this:
Breakfast: smoothy (are you surprised?)
Lunch: oh, we went to mcdonalds, hmmm, I had a grilled chicken sandwich no mayo and a water, felt great!
Snack: one of my daughters gummy fish from Ikea
Dinner: I fried up to FF Hebrew National hotdogs, put it on whole grain bread with a side of broccoli and some grapes. WOO HOO!
Snack later: grapes
Oh, and I have been drinking my water and really enjoying hot tea. Did a nice long walk with the dog today on hubbies suggestion, thanks hubby for the support!

Yesterday was ok, we had company, always makes it harder, although I had some treats, I did watch my portions very closely. I am very proud of myself! Well, now I am off to bed and looking forward to a vigorous workout in the morning. Keep up the great work ladies! I can't wait for my jeans to fit me better too!
Night.

Breaking the : I have to lay down on the bed to zip up my jeans syndrome

I had a cool thing happen to me this morning. I had just washed my jeans last night, so naturally they are a little smaller than after wearing them for a couple of days. Anyhow, this is the first time in months that I didn't have to lay down on the bed to zip them up! I know you know what I'm talking about girls. Don't laugh at me like I'm nutso, we've all done it. But I didn't need to this morning, and it felt SOOO GOOD! It's just a small thing, but it does show my progress thus far.
And Jules had a cool thing happen with her jeans this week too. She got a brand new pair for Christmas, but wasn't able to wear them until this week. Way to go Jules, way to go!

Checkin' In, Expectin' To Be Thin...It's Just a Matter of Time!

I am so full of hope. But I don't even think it is hope, it is stronger than hope, it is a for sure deal, like a package on it's way from a far off land. But I know that my hopelessness is gone. I am like a train on a track. Derailing is physically possible, but highly unlikely, because the course has been set by trained professionals and the train is sturdy and true and designed to follow the tracks.

Here is my history:

Friday: 1245 calories, 8 glasses of water
Saturday: 1044 calories, 8 glasses of water, vitamins, exercised

Drinkin' lots and feelin' good!

Do you like the title of that one? And yes, I am speaking about water. No alcohol is going pass over these lips for quite some time.
I'm on day seven and feeling good! I'm drinking tons of water, journaling everything I'm eating, and working out. Thought I should post what I've been doing to keep myself accountable. I've only recorded the first two days online so far so here goes:
Day 3: 1,253 calories, 10 glasses of water, workout
Day 4: 1,308 calories, 10 glasses of water, workout
Day 5: 1,053 calories, 10 glasses of water
Day 6: 1,210 calories, 9 glasses of water, work out
I exceeded the number of work outs that I had as a goal this week! I went four times instead of three. Yeah for me!!! I've already noticed that I have increased substantially in my energy.

Confessions...

Okay, I must confess. I have eaten more vegetables this week, than probably the last couple of months combined. I know, I know. What can I say? I had been eating so poorly this last few months. It's just been a very eye opening experience for me to journal everything that I've put in my mouth this week. It's been good, it's been very good. I must say, my trips to the grocery store have actually been pretty fun. I don't need to feel embarrassed by what I'm putting up for the cashier to ring up. I feel liberated. I feel clean. I feel empowered. I am free to make the healthy choices, and I'm free from shame. Can somebody say amen!?!

Upheld

I just thought this was a cool picture. It's a reminder that even though we have failed, there is one that will never fail us! No matter what we have to overcome, God is there. I have been enslaved to my appetite for food. It has ruled me, it has damaged it, but I've taken back the control, and so can you! Literally, if I can do it, you can do it. Perhaps many of you didn't have the same addiction as I have, but we all need to learn self control in different areas, don't we? So when we feel like throwing in the towel, throwing our tennis shoes away, or ripping open a big bag of Doritos.... stand firm. Let us support one another, and let's let God be God over our weaknesses.

Julie, thanks for the ispiration!

Jul, you made me reach my first goal that I had set for my first week, and ya didn't even know it. When I came over yesterday to pick up Riley, you had just gotten back from the Y, and working out, and you gave me just enough umption to get off of my butt and go to Curves and have my own work out. I really didn't want to go, I wasn't planning on going, but alas, I went anyways. And I felt so great afterwards! So I just wanted to say thanks for motivating me babe, you helped me, and my first week's goal of working out three times come to pass, and ya didn't even know it.

Quick check in then off to bed!

This is actually one of the exact machines I worked out on today at the Y. It is for the Triceps...I think. I still am a bit dumb about it all. Cool, eh?

_____________________
Hey, crew! Went to my Prism meeting tonight. Was really, really encouraged by the testimonies of all the weight people have lost. In Prism, you only weigh at the end of a 6 week phase, and today was that day, so people were so jacked by their progress. It was fantastic! My good friend Michelle, joined me there tonight. I am so stoked that she is going with me. It will be fun disappearing together!

I did great at the Y today. I rode the bike for 50 minutes today(almost 9 miles) in my heart rate zone for cardio. (130'2-150's). Then I did some stretching and some yoga moves I know to transition to the weight machines. Then I worked two sets of 15 reps on my legs and two sets each of 15 reps on my arms...4 different machines in all. It was great. I feel at home there and look forward to getting stronger.

Hope everyone rocked today, but if you didn't, start fresh tomorrow. You can do it.

Jules

I'm baaaaaaaack!

Ok...so things took a terrible dive for the worst. I am feeling rejuvinated and praying for the strength to do this. I have a fun little goal for now, I bought a new skirt off ebay and it is too tight...well I could wear it and look like a sausage, but I would rather not. Soooo, I am working hard again. My new goal right now is to curb my night eating...I love to eat in the evening, after everyone else is in bed. It is a good goal...trying to find better things to have and lighten it up a bit. Ok, here is my last couple of days:
Today: Smoothy (way into smoothies right now, they taste like a milk shake but no sugar and YUM!!!!!) - Lunch: minestrone soup and bread - raisin bran cereal for snack - chicken chili with matzah for dinner and 2 slices of bread with jelly for a snack. DONE! WHEW! I made it!

Yesterday - Smoothy (what else? Oh and by the way, I am off to Costco in the morning to get more stuff to make more smoothies!) Lunch - quesadilla Dinner - minestrone soup and bread Snack - a little Debbie cake and 2 cookies (oops, but hey, I had portion control, HIGH FIVE!)

And the few days before that all started with a smoothy and then a bunch of other junk that overall was not too bad, but I only journaled yesterday and today!
Keep up the good work ladies! Feeling good! Oh, I also have kicked up the workouts, 1 hour of step aerobics on Monday, Tuesday1 mile walk, Weds 30 minutes of step aerobics today was 30 minutes of toning the hips, thighs and my backyard.
Has anyone else noticed how expensive it is to eat healthy?? I am getting about 1/2 the amount of food for my $75.00 a week food budget.....for the last few weeks that has been a real problem.....BUT then Jim went to the doctor and I decided REALLY quick that it costs you more for the junk food in the end...not only physically, but financially and emotionally.

I am not doing as well as I would like with my eating habits...but I have been getting my 8 glasses or more of water..so I am really proud of that, next week I will work on moving more. I did have quite a revelation the other night....if I don't turn on the TV ....I don't get sucked in....and get so much more done!!! So I am picking 3 shows a week that are worth my time ....other than that ...the TV is off !!!

Welcome, Kimiko!

Wow, another one of my beautiful friends has joined our group! Welcome to Kimiko! I am so proud of you, Sister! I have never seen you this determined to face your health and food issues. I was so charged up after talking to you last Friday! Hey, don't let the numbers rule your emotions. Make a list of "treats" or "escapes" you can give yourself that are non-food related, a warm bath, reading a favorite magazine, calling a long distance friend, window shopping, etc. Use that list when you feel the need for those fries! Redirect your attentions, just like a child needs when learning to cope with the loss of a toy or a priviledge. You can do it, babe. One day, one meal at a time. Love you!

Welcome, Kristina!!

Welcome to my dear friend, Kristina! I love you, girl. I believe in you and I know you are going to do all that you set your mind to, because you are just that kind of woman! You are strong, capable, intelligent, kind, devoted, and worthy! You rock my world and you impress me to pieces! Inspire us all and take on your obstacles full force. Give them no mercy, girl, no mercy.

Kristina's third day on Prism!

I feel as though I have joined the Marines! This seems like such a hard core thing for me to be administering to myself. After YEARS of abusing food, this is really a radical diet for me. But I know that it also is doabale. I did it nearly ten years ago, and I can do it again! I'm tired of being obese. Wow, isn't that an ugly word?! The truth isn't always what you want to believe, but it's what we need to hear. I'm tired of wearing overly large t-shirts that look like a tent. I'm tired of getting winded from walking up my twelve stairs from the basement. I've had enough, and I'm ready to fight for my health and fitness. In addition to counting my calories, my goal is to work out three to four days a week again.

Day 1 my calories were: 1,272 and I drank 10 glasses of water

Day 2 my calories were: 1,233 and I drank 10 glasses of water

GO KRISTINA!!!

Peeking round the corner

I was just peeking around the corner to see if I were still welcome here. What a holiday season! Since the death of my mother 3 years ago, the holidays have fallen to me to plan, prepare, and make jolly. I really don't mind. In fact,I love being with my family and cooking and celebrating together. But oh the goodies. I did horrible .I fell back into my old habit and eating pattern of eathing over emotions. I think I have gained back some of the weight. Who am I fooling, I know I have gained it back. I am going to have to go sugar free for the next few days to relieve the cravings. I am going to dig up the WW mug from the cupboard. Toddler got a seat for my bike for his birthday and the twins and I are bike riding each day trying to get Mom's stamina up. What I wouldn't give for a little of their energy.

THanks for letting me back. Thank you GOd for your love that allows me to fail and pick me back up again. Thank you HOney, for loving me inspite of myself.

Julie's Day So Far

Hey, gals...I am having a great day! Hope you all are, too. My kids are eating dinner, I just finished a rice cake with deli mustard and six slices of deli turkey. You know, the paper thin kind. That's what I would like to be some day...Paper Thin. Ha!

I weighed myself at the Y yesterday and was excited that I don't have that far to go to reach my first objective....Break the 200's. I want to see anything with a 1 in front of it...Anything. It has been at least 5 years since I have.

Yesterday's calories were: 1054, I worked out at the Y, took a vitamin that made me nauseous(I figured out that I have to wait until lunch to take one of these things!), and drank 8 glasses of water.

Today I am at 678 calories (I haven't had dinner yet), I didn't exercise, but I had the creepy vitamin and I have only 1 more glass of water to go. Most importantly, I think my body is adjusting to this new calorie level really well. I feel very clearheaded and I wake up ready to jump out of bed for the day. I feel like I am not having the normal 4PM crash, too. Which is great. I was slightly tortured last night when my kids were eating Pizza. I kind of wanted to scarf that doughy crust on down...But I didn't.

Hope to see some more posts from you all soon! Where is everybody?

Day Four of Prism

I have three successful days on Prism behind me, and as far as I am concerned, there is no reason why everyday will not be just as successful. This plan works for me, it is not easy, but it is simple. I need simple. If something is too easy, there is no challenge, but if something is complicated, my mind can't keep up with my intentions.

Day one: 1114 calories, exercise, 8 glasses of water

Day two: 1200 calories, multi-vitamin, 9 glasses of water

Day three: 1235 calories, multi-vitamin, 9 glasses of water (I went out to my favorite restaurant, El Parisio, and I still was able to stay at this amount of calories. I went in there with close to 500 Cal to spend, and I did real good! They have a grilled chicken salad with lots of Pico de GAO)

Day four: started the day with a bowl of cheerios and I am ready to roll!

Prism Outline

Ok...Let's give this a try. Prism is a plan (Christian based with daily readings and scripture if you so choose, but can be done by those who do not ascribe to Christian beliefs) that is broken up into 6 week phases. The first phase is the most difficult(you are more limited in the grain/cereal dept. And you don't get any potatoes or sugar free desserts), but you will see the most dramatic results in this phase of the program. Here are the basics:

You attend a meeting once a week in your area where you encourage one another, get advice from your leader, and watch an informative video. You can do the program without this support, but that would have to be up to your style. I, honestly, couldn't do it without the support.

Cost: $48 a phase, which includes your workbook curriculum, $28 if you already own the curriculum.

Men eat 1300-1500 calories a day
Women under 250 pounds eat 1000-1200 calories a day
Women over 250 pounds eat 1300-1500 calories a day

If you commit to exercising 5 days a week for 20 minutes a day, you may increase your daily intake by 300 calories a day (ex. 1300-1500 for women under 250 lbs.)

You journal every bite that goes into your mouth on a daily chart. You weigh and measure everything you eat to stay on track.

You drink 8 glasses of water and take a multi-vitamin daily.

You weigh at the start of a phase and at the end only (6 weeks of waiting to see your accomplishments.) I love this part.

You sign an agreement of resolution and read it to yourself each day, which helps you to stay true to the program and more importantly, yourself.

You do not eat sugar, white flour, deep fried or breaded foods, gravies, snack foods like popcorn, chips and crackers.

On each phase, they tell you how many cereal/grain type foods to include.

You cannot consume more than 700 calories before your main meal. They want you to save up calories for dinner so you don't go to bed starving.

I think of the calories as money. Even if I am hungry in the evening, I consol myself with the fact that the moment I wake up, I will have 1200 (dollars) deposited into my eating account. I can spend, spend, spend! This is a game that works with my brain.

Prism Day One

Ok, ladies...Time to start again! Lets get a move on! Let's join Sundee and Tawni and set some goals! After all, it is just physics, right? No magic pill or super knowledge needed. What goes in must not be more than what is burnt and spent and processed and used by our body. Cut the food (calories, or fat grams, or carb intake, or portion size) and move the body. Simple. Let's find a system that feels right for us and lets not allow ourselves to let our most important friend down...You are your most important friend.

I started a program today after attending a meeting last night. This program follows the above physics laws, just like every other weight loss program on the planet. It is called Prism. I started Prism seven years ago and had great success. I lost 58 lbs. It was strict, it was simple, it was doable, I learned to love myself, I learned to keep my word to myself and be truly honest with myself. I let all of those things go, had two more babies, one bout of Post Partem depression, and seven years of stress eating create me back into the woman I was seven years ago. I am here to say that I am going back to the truth that works for me. My tummy is growling a bit...But I had a successful day. My tummy will adjust. My energy will return. My body will morph back into something more healthy, and I will slay the dragon once again.

Baby steps.....

I noticed no one has posted since before Christmas.....Hee Hee Hee....Ok.. well now it's 2006, a clean slate. I have decided to make baby steps, but drastic baby steps if that makes since. I have decided I need to do this not only for me but for my whole family. I do not want to be responsible for my daughter having the same health and self esteem issues I face, but that's what I am dooming her to by not teaching her how to take care of her body. I never really thought about it when she was younger because she was always thin and VERY active. BUT..things have changed, her body is changing and her eating habits are...well ...what I allowed them to be. So ...
1. I am not buying junk food for the house. We wont jump off cold turkey...we still have plenty left from December..but I am not allowing any more in...so if we want to have a little to enjoy say Jan 29th...well we better eat less now. I have stocked up on plenty of fruits, vegi's, juice(100% juice), ect to keep us more than full....
2. starting tomorrow ..I am exercising WITH my daughter...I got a great exercise tape that really explaines the how and why we exercise....and I got some fun dance ones as well .
3.....We are also going to start "HEALTH" class...for all of us.
4. I am putting together a collage of pictures that show all the things I would love to be able to do but can not because of my weight...and I am putting it on the fridge..so I can see it every time I want to talk myself into eating something I shouldn't.
It will take me the next month..maybe two..to get it all in place..and make my schedule work..so pray that I will have strength...I have a long way to go..and medical problems that add to the weight problem... but I have a BIG God and I know he desires me to he healthy. So as I am faithful in taking care of my body, I am sure He will be faithful as well.

im not losing or shaking....

Im eating. Ack. It has been a really rough few days. Difficult life situations and poor food choices. I have not wanted to exercise, let alone make healthy choices, ditto goes for keeping my house or anything else that I normally do. Ok, it is time for me to get a grip and do what is right for me. One of you wrote how much better you felt when you ate right and ran...well, I know how great I feel when I eat less during the day and workout, not just emotionally, but physically I feel so much better, which then leads to physically feeling good as well. I am going to take Julie's advice and go one meal at a time. I will try to get in here and let you all know how it went. I feel inspired by all your thoughts...I started off so stong, then WHAM-O life did a drive by! Ouch. I do have to say on the good side, for the wrong choices I did make, I did not go way overboard, I am proud of that fact.
Thanks everyone,
Tina

The Sugar Monster

It is a well know fact in my family, that if I eat too much sugar, I grow horns and steam comes out of my nose. It has been that way for many years. I am not sick (thank God) - I have checked with a doctor - but too much sugar gets me way down after a while. So, today was one of those days. I baked enough Christmas cookies to kill a small group of carol singers. Really, I made like 5 different kinds of cookies, and had to sample each one at least once if not three times. At 4pm, I could tell the sugar monster was on her way to wreak havoc on the poor innocent bystanders that happen to be involved in my evening plans (poor fools didn't see what hit 'em). By 5pm I was officially not a fun person to be around. By 6, I was downright nasty. It is now 11pm and I don't want to talk about it anymore.

No, really, I know that I need to make sure I get lots of fresh veggies, meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, and some good grain bread and drink my weight in water. Let's be honest... it is called "SELF CONTROLL". A cookie here and there is fine, but sugar all day long, for several days in a row is just straight-up stupid. I am still waiting for that "first day". I know it is around the bend... any second now.... all right, here it comes.... I can see it.... it will get here soon.... I can do this.

need a cheer?

So I've been struggling much like Julie and Emily (bitbythebug), but I"m still really desiring to do the best I can. I have some motivation now, which I think might help. I start student teaching at Everett High the 31st of Jan, and I need to get some new clothes to look professional in. So my goal is to go down a size in the next month, which is really reasonable I think. So if I can do that, I know that y'all can meet your goals as well.
Today I had rice crispies for breakfast (nonfat milk of course) and the light combo at Taco time which is like 5 points weightwatchers and a nonfat sugar free latte for a snack. So i'm aiming for a healthy dinner.
We can do this ladies, we can't give up, its our lives we are fighting for here! :)

Christmas crazies and nothing in the cupboards!

I found this print at Art.com, it is titled: "Crazy Christmas Dream" by artist Green Sorsdahl Phase
_______________________________
I am officially not eating right and I am attributing it to the Christmas Crazies and being so busy that I haven't shopped in so long, all I have to eat in the cupboards are pistachios, tomato soup, English muffins, and hamburger. Yucky. I really don't know what I ate today and in what combination! I did mail out my Christmas cards, though and went shopping at Walmart from 9 till 11 PM so I am wiped out! I got some food, but Kid food...Nothing I will want tomorrow....I just don't know what I want and what I need. It is so much easier to shop for the children. I guess I did buy some turkey. I can have a sandwich tomorrow for lunch. Thanks for all the support, guys. And thanks for pouring forth your hearts. This is a great outlet for me, even if I am not soaring right now. I am giving myself some grace because of the holidays.

Just one day...

I am having a really hard time just starting. Why is just getting that one day down is darn hard! Really, when you think about it, it's just one day, right? Taking the first step of eating well the WHOLE day, and doing something good for my physical well-being seems so impossible to do. Yet, once that first day is done, it is easy!

I am find myself talking myself out of eating well, or going for a run and I can't figure out why. I always feel better when I eat well and go for a walk or a run, and I know that if I just go and do it, it gets easier to do the next day... yet I won't do it!

In the Bible, this guy named Paul talks in circles about not doing what we want to do, and doing what we don't want to do. That we know what we should do, and we know when we are not doing what we should do, but we keep on doing what we don't want to do, because we want to. How we know what we want the end result to be, but we do things that keep us from our goals because it is more comfortable to be just as we are. If we don't change, then it won't be hard, and we can just go on as we are... Because it really isn't that bad, is it? But it is bad! To work for something and achieve a goal is a truly wonderful thing, and the biggest thing standing in the way is me.

Wow, my head hurts.

So, it I am still striving to get that first day down so that the next day will follow the path that has been paved. This really is a day-by-day sort of thing. Until next time....

rougher day, wanna eat

I hate it that my emotions rule my food choices....having a bad day, emotionally....want to make good choices.

Breakfast: a little larger than normal bowl of cereal, not bad, not great.
Didnt' workout, instead I clean the house...it gets a sweat up so I figure it counts, right?

Lunch: pizza, 2 slices of a medium, not bad!

Dinner: patty melt and french fries, water (2 glasses)
Dessert: pudding (2)
More water.

Ok, it wasn't horrible, but it could have been better. The house looks sparkly clean and I am happy about that. Had a good night out with a friend of mine...walked around at Country Village, does shivering burn many calories? That's it for today, tomorrow is a new day with a whole new opportunity to make some great choices.

Enough is Enough

I was putting my jeans on (praise God for lycra) and I saw my back-side in the mirror. I just had to laugh. It really is funny how you look at yourself each day and don't see the change, and then WHAM! It is like the Fat-Fairy came in for a visit one night while I was sleeping, and whacked me with a stick of summer sausage.

So, enough is enough. Today was not the greatest eating day. I have been feeling kinda yucky, so the only thing that sounds good are crackers and toast. So, that is what I have been eating: crackers, toast, an apple, some chocolate (not the best choice with a rebellious tummy) and a banana. I did however walk 6 miles, which felt great. It was about 27 deg. and so beautiful this morning - a very nice walk indeed.

I have a Maid of Honor dress to fit into come this may, so here goes nothing. really, enough is enough.

12/15 Tina

Ok...busy day, party in martial arts (potluck, of course), meeting friends for lunch...and going out to dinner with different friends, yikes. Hard day for the calorie conscious. I really want to go and have a patty melt with grilled onions and french fries...I will let you know what happens.

Breakfast: banana
Workout: 20 minute dance tape
Lunch/potluck food: rice about 2 cups worth...I did not eat the cake, I am very PROUD! :) Satsuma, fortune cookie.
Snack: craisins
Dinner:(I was GOOD!) I had a terriyaki chicken salad...woo hoo! Bread on the side and 4 french fries
Snack: pudding (ok, 2)
Enjoy the comic!

Lacking in Logging

I haven't logged on in a few days, mostly because on Tuesday, I set myself up for failure by skipping breakfast (unintentionally, I simply ran out of time.) So, by the time I got home from volunteering in Riley's co-op class, I was ravenous. Especially so since I had watched my calories so diligently the day before! So, I ate more than I should have for the whole day.

Yesterday was a bit better. What I am really proud of yesterday, was that I went to dinner with my mother in law and I chose a low-point meal. We were at Red Robin, and you all know how easy it is to choose badly there, well, I knew from weight watchers that the ensinada chicken platter was only 7 points, so that's what I ate!

I will be home all day today, so my challenge will be to not snack. Here it goes!

12/13 Tina's journal for today

Ok, here we go:
Breakfast was light because I knew I was going out for lunch, so I had a satsuma and then about an hour later I ate a banana.

Lunch: (here is the good part, ready?) THAI FOOD! Oh, that was a nice lunch, went to Thai on Broadway (introduced to me by Miss Julie P!) and met a friend there, good company and good food. Had the special, pad thai, chicken rama and rice, I split the meal with my daughter....what a nice way to save money and calories!

Dinner: Bean soup and a salad (spinach, sunflower seeds, feta cheese, craisins, croutons, bell pepper, carrots, light honey mustard dressing).

Snack: popcorn and a root beer

Exercise for today, 30 minutes of pilates.
You go girls! I feel so inspired right now and ready to meet this challenge again. I will tell you all that I had lost 35 pounds about 2 1/2 years ago, I am up about 12 pounds right now from that point, I want to get back down to where I was. I need to do this for my health, I had diabetes with my last pregnancy and my blood counts are fine, but a bit high within the normal range. Thanks for sharing it is really encouraging!

Have a great day all!
Tina

Love, Mom2the5rs (AKA Julie)

Just so you know..

First off, thanks for letting join you all in this journey of healthy living. I have been fighting my weight since I was a kid, so it is good to have others to team with.

I won't torture you with my diet history, but I have lost about 60 pounds since 2001, and I have about 25 more to go. I have gained back 20... So I need to loose that and about 5 more to be comfortable. That won't make me skinny, but I don't want that. I want to be healthy. I am truly happy with who I am, so that is a blessing (being thinner didn't make me happy). I just want to be healthy and live the best physical life I can.

I am not a food counter. I know in my heart when I am hungry and when I am not; my problem is not the kind of food I eat, it is how much I eat. It is a plain fact that I eat when I am board, not hungry, and I usually eat past the “full” feeling. I want to switch that around, and eat when I am hungry and stop when I am satisfied. I know that kind of paradigm shift works for me.

I promise not to write this much again - it a lot to read. But I just wanted to let you know that I will be honest about the kind of eating day I had. Whether or not I listened to that God-given voice inside of me telling me when I am need food and when I don’t. If I have been active or not, and if I am taking advantage of each day to be healthy.

baby steps

okay, so I'm doing pretty good. I have been doing drastic diets for the past 6 months, and I'm ready to make life changes that fit my reality. So I'm eating smaller portions and stop eating once I'm statisfied. Its been really freeing for me because I still choose to eat what I want, but stop before it gets out of hand (I'm a binger, so this behavior is a victory for me). I've also decided to only eat icecream when I'm out with friends and its a social thing, much like drinking. Icecream is my greatest binging item, so I'm just not going to buy it anymore.

okay, so yesterday I had a bowl of rice crisy's for breakfast. a hamburger and a third of an order of fries for lunch (i threw them away once I was satisfied!!) and was unable to have any thing else to eat until 9pm because I took a train to see a friend and they only fed you if you had reservations. So my friend wanted icecream, so i got a small burger and a blizard. Not the healthiest day, but I stuck to my plan. baby steps. :)
Thanks everybody for joining us, it is really inspiring!

Do we have to?????

Do we really want to start this right befor Christmas?? Isn't that a little to much pressure?? Can't we join the millions who are going to start their diet January 1st??? Why break with tradition??? Please? I have all my Christmas baking to do this week...!!!! oh ok...I know it will be easier if I don't add another 10lbs just for the sake of Christmas......But I am not gonna tell ya what I ate today.....I will let that go until tomarrow......WISH ME LUCK...or at least good commone sence....!!

Here I Am, There I GO

I am so glad to be asked to join this group. I've got to get back on the wagon. I have missed my WW meeting the past two weeks and as a result have only maintained.

Today started out good.
Breakfast: 1c. Cream of Wheat with Reduced cal margarine and Equal 3 pts
Snack: Orange 1 point
Lunch: Chicken 4 pts, banana 2 pts, then it just all fell apart.
Dinner was healthy but I ate too much of it. I made White beans and Ham one of my favorites and just ate too much.

Tomorrow is a new day and a chance to begin a new. I am glad for this group to stay accountable and pray for each other as we travel down the road to health.

Peace,

Tina's Food Journal and Greetings!

First, let me say HI to Julie and Mandy! So glad to be here! I am really excited and much in need of some accountability and motivation...so here goes, my first day (today's) food journal.

Breakfast: Kashi cinnamon harvest cereal w/ soy milk (YUM)
Snack: Satsuma (again YUM)
Lunch: can of Campbell's Vegetarian vegetable soup
Snack: another bowl of Kashi cinnamon harvest cereal w/soy milk (double yum)
Dinner: salad consisting of spinach, lettuce/cabbage blend, carrots, bell pepper, olives, green onion, light Honey Mustard dressing by Paul Newman, croutons
Snack: popcorn, root beer float (mini one)

I am doing WW points and I will have met my points with this menu for today of 20. I worked out for 35 minutes of step aerobics and drank up my giant jug of water, which is like a 1/2 gallon or something ridiculous. I can't stop running to the potty...hate that part! Brawny should make toilet paper. Ok, thanks for this forum! I want to do good and get to where my pants are loose again. Oh and for the record, at this point I am not weighing myself, I am going by feeling, I get very hung up on numbers and then I blow it. Trying something a little different here.

You ladies are great! Can't wait to see what you are up to. I will work on getting some of my favorite recipes out that are weight friendly!

Julie's Food Journal for Monday, Dec. 12th

This piece of artwork is titled "JOY". I felt joy today because I was honest with my eating and I did a good job controlling my desires and making wise choices.

Double it and Halve it!

I was thinking of a strategy in making food choices: I will double my portions of veggies and fruit. I never take in enough of these items. I will cut in half the things I usually load up on, like meat and bread and pasta and taco chips. I will quarter the portions of sweets and treats and deep fried food, but not deny myself their taste.
